On August 16, Seneca Habitat for Humanity and Seneca County Home Builders Association completed an extremely successful extreme build.

Builders were on the site by early morning and finished up in the early evening.  As you can see from the photos, the building went from a deck to a completely enclosed house in that short time.

The boost these extreme builds give our building program is beyond measure.  Thanks to all those who helped out this year!

Meet the Newman Family

Newman Family PhotoOne of the greatest privileges that we have at Seneca Habitat is the elation that is felt when we select a new partner family to build a home with. Finally, after a challenging period of a little over two years without finding a qualified partner family, we’re happy to say that we have a new one.

It’s our distinct pleasure to announce that Seneca Habitat has selected Robert and Tina Newman, and their children, as our newest partner family! Robert and Tina are both from Tiffin, have local employment, and passed our selection criteria with flying colors. After their application was reviewed by our Family Selection Committee and recommended for approval, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to welcome them.

Robert, Tina, and their family will work with our Building Committee and volunteers to build their home, which will be the seventh one that is constructed as part of our Third Avenue Development Project. They are currently slated to build a four-bedroom home with us, and our builders are working on the design of the home, as well as ordering materials and the groundbreaking. Even more amazing, we are also pleased to announce that we are planning our Second Annual Extreme Build, in partnership with the Seneca County Home Builders’ Association, for the Newman home, at a date hopefully in mid-to-late October. More details will be announced later.

Even more, the Seneca County Home Builders’ Association, together with Seneca Habitat, would like to make the next home that we start another Extreme Build home!  This means that the exterior of the home would be completed in one day (16 hours or less), which helps put our construction efforts ahead of schedule.  The 2012 and 2013 Extreme Builds were incredibly successful, and the 2014 Extreme Build is tentatively scheduled for July 26th, 2014.

Seneca Habitat is in its 28th year of operation in Tiffin and Seneca County as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Families that have questions about the program or would like to apply for a home are encouraged to call the office at 419-447-4270 or to email senecahfh@yahoo.com. Be sure to find the agency on Facebook as well to see photos of under-construction and completed homes.
